LUNGS AND DIAPHRAGM SIMULATOR

1. Materials and tools (15 groups / 1 class)

15 1.5litre Voltic bottle (cut clearly under the third transversal groove from the top), 15 rubber corks with 5mm diameter straws, 15 disposable medical rubber gloves, 15 thin polyethylene (plastic) bags, permanent markers, cellophane tape, nylon strings

2. Activities

1)         Using a permanent marker draw the model of the lungs and trachea on a plastic polyethylene bag.

2)         Trim the drawn model with scissors.

3)         Cellotape the cut part of the model and make sure that there are no holes on the model. (Do not paste cellotape deeply on the model)

4)         Make a hole in a rubber cork, about the size of a 5mm diameter plastic straw.  Insert the straw in the cork.

5)         Cellotape the model and the straw.  The straw should be sandwiched with ribbons of cellotape.

6)         Get a disposable medical rubber glove.  Cut off the fingers of the glove and open it to make as largest rubber sheet as possible.

7)         Make a cut at the bottom of a 1.5 litre plastic Voltic bottle.  Put the lungs and trachea model into the bottle from the top opening.

8)         Cover the bottom of the bottle with the rubber sheet.  Fix the rubber sheet with rubber bands.

9)         Tie a nylon string to the centre of the rubber sheet.
