Materials and tools

Colour test pit boards (plastic sheets cut from 1.5L Voltic bottle), plastic straws or droppers, 250ml glass beakers, improvised beakers, improvised spirit burners, funnels, methyl alcohol, cotton gauze or filter paper, flame tree flower petals, beet roots, bronze colour leaves, methyl orange, phenolphthalein, litmus paper, universal indicator, soil PH indicator, a sheet of white paper and colour pencils.

 

Activities

1.         Collect fresh flame tree flower petals (at least 10 petals per group), beet root slices, bronze colour leaves.

 

 

 

2.         Chop or cut them into small pieces and put them in beakers, respectively.

3.         Add approximately 50ml of fresh water into the beakers, respectively.

4.         Boil the mixture of water and plant tissue about 5 minutes.

5.         Filter the liquid using gauze and the funnel.

6.         Drop the filtrate in seven partitions of a colour test pit board.

7.         Drop the designated acid or alkali indicated below into a pit.

8.         Record the colour of the liquid.
